Kursplan för Gendered Bodies: Theories and Challenges
This chapter adopts an affirmative stance and provides cartography of the intersections between feminism and the posthuman predicament by arguing the following theses: that feminism is not a humanism; that Anthropos has been decentered and so is the emphasis on bios; and that, as a result, nonhuman life, zoe, is now the ruling concept. THE POSTHUMAN is a rather startling work that requires heavy concentration on the part of the reader to follow the brilliant thinking of the author, Rosi Braidotti, a contemporary philosopher and feminist theoretician `who makes a case for an alternative view on subjectivity, ethics and emancipation and pitches diversity against the postmodernist risk of cultural relativism while also standing against the tenets of liberal individualism.' Braidotti is considered one of the founders of gender studies in Europe and one of the most original and prolific thinkers of recent decades in the fields of feminist philosophy, epistemology, poststructuralism and psychoanalysis, she is the initiator of European networks such as ATHENA (Advanced Thematic Network in Activities in Women’s Studies in Europe) and NOISE (inter-European University exchange program), as well as one of the most significant theoretical feminists. Influenced by philosophers such as Gilles Deleuze and especially French feminist thinker Luce Irigaray, Braidotti has brought postmodern feminism into the Information Age with her considerations of cyberspace, prosthesis, and the materiality of difference. Braidotti also considers how ideas of gender difference can affect our sense of the human/animal and human/machine divides.

One of the books that I find most interesting about the posthuman challenges is The Posthuman by Rosi Braidotti, 2013. In the book, you can find several different approaches to the posthuman: as a theoretical field that goes beyond the species and notions of self and humankind, questions of the inhuman and death and the posthuman as an approach to life itself. Rosi Braidotti's talk will outline the main tenets of feminism after the posthuman turn. The four theses are: that feminism is not (only) a humanism; that She defines the posthuman turn as a convergence between post-humanism on the one hand and post-anthropocentrism on the other, and she examines the POSTHUMAN FEMINIST.

Braidotti points to the relatively recent development of critical disciplines that have identified and worked to dismantle this dynamic, including feminism, post-colonialism, and cultural studies. Although feminist posthuman theory benefits from multiple genealogical sources and cannot be reduced to a single or linear event, it can be analyzed in terms of its conceptual premises, the methodology and its implications for feminist political subjectivity and for sexual politics, notably in relation to nonhuman agents. Rosi Braidotti is an incredibly influential contemporary philosopher and feminist. She is largely heralded as pioneer of European Women's Studies. This lecture will address the so-called ‘post-human’ turn in contemporary feminist theory in the light of three main considerations: firstly the shifting perception and understanding of ‘the human’ in the Life sciences. Indeed, we see in her work notions of process ontology (Braidotti 2006), zoe (vital, self-organizing matter) (2013), as well as elements of inspiration from Deleuze and Guattari (), Foucault () and Irigaray (). The Posthuman starts by exploring the extent to which a post-humanist move displaces the traditional humanistic unity of the subject.
